SSHRC Connection Grant Workshop

Date: Friday, September 30th

Location: MSJ, Room 302A

Ready to mobilize your knowledge?  SSHRC’s Connection Grants support events and outreach activities geared toward short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization initiatives such as workshops, colloquiums, conferences, forums, summer institutes, etc. Connection Grant funding is for one year, and there are four application deadlines throughout the year: February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. This workshop provides a detailed overview of SSHRC’s Connection grant, and the essentials needed to apply for this opportunity.

Dr. Steve Kleinknecht, a recipient of multiple Connection Grants over the years in both lead and co-lead applicant roles, will be on hand to answer specific questions and provide information based on his experiences with Connection grants.

Research Grant Writing & Development Workshop

Date: Friday, September 23rd
Time: 11:30 – 1:00pm
Location: Mother St. James Building, Room 302A

This workshop provides a high-level overview of planning, writing and developing research grant applications. Topics covered include:

  • Preparation and planning (proposal, timelines, budget, CCV, ethics etc)
  • Elements of successful proposals
  • Find the right sponsor – types of funding sources
  • Writing tips
  • Common flaws
  • Resources

Time will be set aside for specific questions. Please feel free to bring your lunch.

Brescia Research Lecture -Professor James Doelman, Excellence in Research Professor of the Year (2015)

J Doelman_Cambridge University LibraryBrescia English professor Dr. James Doelman, will present a lecture on his current research on unpublished manuscript funeral elegies from the Early Modern Literary period in England (17th century). Dr. Doelman is the 2015 Brescia Excellence in Research Professor, and winner of the inaugural Brescia Award for Excellence in Research. His forthcoming book, The Epigram in England: 1590-1640 published by Manchester University Press is due out later this year.

Dr. Jamie Seabrook – Guest Lecture @Western, Friday September 25

Dr. Jamie Seabrook, Division of Food and Nutritional Sciences, will be presenting a guest lecture on his recent published research entitled, “Family Structure and Children’s Socioeconomic Attainment: A Canadian Sample” His talk is part of a seminar series hosted by Western’s Department of Epidemiology & Biostatistics (Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry).
